I have plenty of gripes about both Max and Maya.

Never used or plan on using Blender so can't comment on that, I have only launched Maya a handful of times in my life, yet I have taught maya users techniques and worked some through problems based on my knowledge of "how it should be done" and not just "how it should be done in Maya". There are users at most company that were hired based on their knowledge of the techniques and not the specific tools. If the user has the best demo material they will get hired. The software isn't what gets you hired, as larger studios will typically have to train any new users due to the customized tools and pipeline they use. If you are a single user with limited scripting or programming knowledge then in a lot of cases 3ds Max is a better tool as its 3rd party community (free and commercial) is much greater and provides various options for addressing various tasks. Most production studios will be running customized tools and pipeline, so knowing Maya doesn't mean you will know the "Maya" that they use. Now the down side with Maya is that in most cases you need TDs to make it do what you want, because it is a pipeline tool and needs someone to make it work in the pipeline. Part of the reason Maya is still the staple in film is the multi-platform support (when you have a couple hundred/thousand machines on the farm being able to use Linux helps to keep cost down), Python support (use one language across multiple applications), and it is simply a much better "pipeline" tool (because of the previous reasons and other reasons). Maya was a staple long before that, and after that. but almost holding themself behind and missing out on the new stuff. No matter ems everybody not willing to take that "gamble" just stick with the solid versions of max and maya.i.e. but kinda hard.when the displayy quality has really spoiled me. but that initial lag (orbit, zoom, move, rotate etc) is VERY annoying.and still no fixes YET? And yes, I guess I could always revert back to direct3d driver opposed tot he NITROUS driver. but the condition both max 2012 and maya 2012 really can't be compared. Autodesk is huge.but feel they are NOT doing what they could be doing with max/XBR. They both are great.but until max gets EVERYTHING XBR "REVAMPED".i wouldn t gamble on it, and it's gonna take some new break-in time also after the revamping. I know max is used a lot also for movies.but not nearly as much as maya.

seems so many more experienced in the maya world in the movie industry field.would seem rather a gamble to even consider 3ds max for it. Wow.don't think Golem (etc) could've been any better if 3ds max was used.
